"An SRS worker came to her home and stayed about 10 minutes a few weeks before Daytona died, she
said. "She (Katie Cornejo)seemed like she was in a hurry."
The parents blame the system for their daughter's death, but a judge says limited information can
affect decisions.
In the months and weeks before 2-year-old Daytona Robertson became a homicide victim, her divorced
parents, her day-care provider, a judge and SRS suspected she was being abused.
Some of them thought there was clear evidence -- pictures of extensive bruising.
And yet no one prevented her death.
On February 25, 2008, Daytona suffered a severe beating at the hands of someone. Her step-mother
called EMT’s stating that she was having seizures. Daytona was transported to the hospital where
she died five days later from her injuries.
Cornejo-Robertson’s 6 year old son was also present in the home at the time of the beating; he
would later speak to police about what he witnessed and his statements would be used in court.
Her stepmother, Katie Robertson, 27, has been charged with murder.
